Depending on the production method, the type of ink

According to the production method, the type of ink is lampblack ink; Song Yanmo.

Ink is divided into varieties according to function and texture, and all varieties are divided into three categories. That is, pine smoke, oil smoke and ink fragrance.

Pine smoke appeared earlier. Song Yanmo burns pine branches to get cigarettes, then screens them, adds leather gum, musk and borneol, and then shapes them. Characterized by colored ink, deep but not bright, lack of luster, light glue.

The pine cigarettes produced in the Han Dynasty, also known as "Kwai Mo", were distributed to ministers, servants, officials such as Cheng and Lang every month in the Han Dynasty. The ancients, as Song Yanmo, also liked peeling, because the ink stick was peeled to facilitate grinding.

The loose-grained ink of Su Wei, a Mohist in the Song Dynasty, was as hard as jade and was regarded as a treasure at that time. When people have an inch, they also rush to boast, calling it "breaking the gold and breaking the jade."

Fume ink is made by burning smoke with oil and adding rubber and spices. Tung oil and sesame oil can be used as combustion materials. Shantou's smoke ink is lighter than Song Yanmo's, but its luster is brighter.

Therefore, later ink makers also like to mix pine smoke and lampblack to make ink, and have both. Compared with Song Yanmo, ink painting is more respected by calligraphers.

The difference between Song Yanmo and lampblack ink

1. Different fuels: Oil fume ink mainly uses some specific vegetable oil or animal oil as fuel; Pine is the main fuel in Song Yanmo.

2, the appearance is different: the appearance of lampblack ink is black and shiny; On the other hand, Song Yanmo has a black appearance and poor luster.

3, the ink color is different: the ink color of oil smoke ink looks thick black; Song Yanmo's ink looks dark.

4. Fume ink and Song Yanmo are common inks in ink making. Oil smoke ink is black and shiny, which can show subtle changes in ink color and is more suitable for landscape painting; Song Yanmo's dark ink is mostly used for feathers and figures' hair, which is not suitable for landscape painting.

Besides the types of ink, the quality of ink is also one of the important reasons that affect painting. Generally, purple ink is the best, followed by black, and cyan and gray ink are the worst. If you can't observe it, you can also distinguish it by sound. Generally, the sound of good quality ink is clear when it is lightly buckled and delicate when it is ground. When inferior ink is ground, the sound is heavy and there is obvious rough sound.
