In what ways is the uniqueness of classical Arabic poetry reflected compared with the poetry of other nations or countries?

(1) Classical Arabic poetry is full of the strong individualism and liberalism unique to the Arabs. Their poetry is a reflection of their unruly, militant and heroic character, and there is no other nation in the world that has so developed and self-aggrandizing and boastful poetry as Arabia.

(2) Compared with other peoples, classical Arab poetry has a strong improvisation, impulsiveness and superficiality of thought. Their poets are unwilling and not good at careful thinking, they do not write poems word by word, but improvise, so Arab poetry is often neurotic, emotional, more language than thought, more emotion than reason, more impulsive than restrained. They could not think and observe things and phenomena in a comprehensive way, and when they saw something in their eyes and thought about something in their hearts, they wrote poems. Therefore, their poems do not have a rigorous logical structure and thought process.

(3) The lack of rich imagination in Arabic poetry is probably due to the monotonous desert environment which limits the imagination of Arabic poets. Their poetic imagery usually consists of a few things they are most familiar with, i.e., the desert, grass, camel, horse, etc. The narrow imagination made their poems lack fresh and vivid metaphors, and the themes, subjects, and styles were repeated from generation to generation, making them monotonous.

(4) Arabic poetry is highly practical and utilitarian. Poetry in the age of obscurantism was used partly to remember events, to proclaim the poet himself, to encourage unity among the tribes, to satirize and fight the enemy, and to talk about love as well as social interactions. After the unification of the empire, poetry was closely related to politics and religion. In order to gain fame and fortune, poets competed to use poetry to flatter and speculate. This tendency to instrumentalize poetry hindered the further development of Arabic poetry.
