Every year, the 19th day of the 2nd month of the lunar calendar is the Christmas Day of Guanyin, the 19th day of the 6th month is the day of Guanyin's attainment of enlightenment, and the 19th day of the 9th month is the day of Guanyin's departure from her home, which are the three major incense periods of Guanyin's faith.

Guanyin temples all over Fujian, and most people eat "Guanyin Vegetarian" during the festival to protect the peace. The fasting from the 9th day of the 6th lunar month to the 19th day of the 19th lunar month (Guanyin's birthday) is also called "Guanyinsu".
