Study Couplet Selection: Qijia (Part Two)

Look at Mr. Zhang Zhao, the minister and calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty (169 1- 1745):

Since ancient times, many aristocratic families have accumulated virtues.

The first person in the world must read by himself.

The general meaning of the first part is that the survival and development of individuals need to accumulate virtue, and the survival and development of families also need to accumulate virtue. There is a well-known Spring Festival couplets saying: the first spring in Xiangyang is always there, and good people are happy. "Accumulate goodness" and "accumulate virtue" are the same meaning.

Let's look at a pair of Wang Wenzhi who explored flowers in Qing Dynasty (1730- 1802):

For hundreds of years, people have accumulated nothing but kindness.

The first occupation is still reading.

This pair is similar to the last one, so I won't say much.

Next, look at a modern calligraphy master, Tang Tuo (187 1- 1938):

To save the body, it is necessary to bow down as the best policy and cultivate a good way to teach children.

This couplet is about self-cultivation, and the next couplet is about godson.

The "Three Essentials of Self-protection" in the first part is what Ceng Zi said in The Analects of Confucius.

The second part of the Book of Revision of Righteousness refers to the Inheritance Rules of Revision of Righteousness compiled by Chen Hongmou (1696- 177 1), which is a collection of good words and meaningful words of Zhu, Wang Yangming and Lu. And read a passage from the godson Lu:

Although I am in Beijing, I deeply miss your study. I don't want you to make a fortune by reading, but I really want you to read and understand the truth of sages, and don't be a vulgar person. Reading and being a man are not the same thing. The way to be a man is to manage what you read and say. Only in this way can you be called a reader.

Then look at Lu Runxiang (1841-1915):

Don't bully the weak and be afraid of the hard, you can respect your ancestors.

The dutiful son and grandson will be the ones who suffer.

"Don't bully" mentioned by Shanglian is also one of the bottom lines of traditional self-cultivation. Hu Qingyutang is a time-honored brand of traditional Chinese medicine founded by Hu Xueyan, a modern businessman. It has been in business for a hundred years, which is closely related to its insistence on "not cheating". Tongrentang, a century-old shop, also said that "harmony is different, no one can see it, and it is intentional." The couplets of its chain pharmacies have repeatedly emphasized this point: although the processing is complicated, it will not save labor, and although the taste is expensive, it will not reduce material resources.

"Quiet" means doing one's duty and obligation well. Being a supervisor means being a good supervisor, being an employee means being a good employee, being a father means being a good father, and being a son means being a good son.

Only by doing all these things well can we be regarded as "respecting the ancestors". There is a swearing saying called "shameless ancestors!" It means that what you did brought shame to your ancestors.

The second part talks about Ceng Zi's "I save my life three times a day" and "Suffering is a blessing". Only by doing this can we be called "a dutiful son and a wise grandson".

There are some proverbs in tradition that are well said:

Let people not be weak, strive for strength and win big disasters;

Endure a calm moment and take a step back.

Cheap and lose;

Give one point today and get three points tomorrow.

A small part will be given one point, and most will be given three points.

Look at the Qing Jinshi and Changzhou celebrity Wang Xun (? -19 15) a pair of gentlemen:

Patience and harmony are the best policy, and diligence is conducive to entrepreneurship.

Here, the four key words of "Qijia" are "forbearance", "harmony", "diligence" and "frugality".

If you want harmony, you must first be tolerant. Mr. Hu Shi tasted that tolerance is more important than freedom. This is equally important for a family, an organization and even a country.

Let's take a look at Mr. Tang Tuo:

There is a saying in the heirloom that only kindness is left, and there is nothing strange except frankness.

This is an old couplet. Although plain, it is a magic weapon for constant change-one is "frankness" and the other is "openness". You can take thousands of steps, and I only take two, which is simple and effective, and saves worry and effort.

Speaking of which, I think of several old couplets that have been circulating for hundreds of years. For example, during the Spring Festival today, some people sent out "The days add years, people live longer, and spring is full of blessings", some people sent out "Business is booming all over the world, and financial resources are abundant in the Three Rivers", and some people sent out "Happiness is like flowing water in the East China Sea, and life is longer than that in the South Mountain" to celebrate their birthdays, and so on. These old sayings are really good.

Let's look at the last top scholar, Mr. Lin from Liu Chun (1872- 1944):

A happy family is like spring brew, but a small house is secluded and awkward.

This pair was mentioned in the previous Comfort. This "spring brewing" is the result. Only when the seriousness of father and son in "Ming Jiao" is done well can the excitement here be born, that is, with rules and discipline, there will be happiness and freedom.

Let's take a look at Mr. Zhang Tingji, an expert in the Qing Dynasty (1768- 1848):

The exuberance of bookish, a little Zou Lu, and a happy ancient Tang Yu.

This couplet was also mentioned in the previous reading. The meaning of "having a good time together" is that the family is simple and happy, just like going back to ancient times in Yu Shun, Tang Yao.

Finally, look at Mr. Lin Yutang, a famous contemporary scholar and writer (1895- 1976):

Brilliant, Shu Hui alone.

Looking at the inscription "Sixty Years of Qiu Ren Defending Jing", we can see that this pair was written by Mr. Lin to his wife.

It is not only clever and virtuous, but also good at hiding. Mr. Lin is really good at praising his wife.

The happiness of married life not only requires both men and women to stick to the bottom line, but also requires both sides to create happiness with their heart. Creating surprises in blandness and freshness in monotony is the art of life.

Because Indian writers hold the same psychology as Wilde.

According to this genesis, when God created a woman, he interwoven the beauty of flowers, the singing of birds, the color of rainbows, the softness of wind, the smile of water, the tenderness of sheep, the cunning of foxes, the vagaries of clouds and rain, and gave her to a man as his wife.
