Scandinavian countries located in northern Europe have risen in the field of design and made remarkable achievements, forming a Scandinavian style with a very wide influence. Short for "Navid" style.
Chairs and stools:
In Finland, Aalto is famous for manufacturing low-cost but well-designed furniture by industrial production methods. What is particularly original is that he uses thin and hard plywood, which can be formed by hot bending to make light, comfortable and compact modern furniture.
The armchair he designed in 1928 (Figure 8-23) is made of plywood and curved wood, which is light and applicable, making full use of the characteristics of materials, elegant and generous without sacrificing its comfort.
Aalto's other furniture designs have the same characteristics (Figure 8-24). In fact, Scandinavian functionalism can be seen most clearly in Aalto's works. His favorite organic materials not only give his works a warm and humanistic atmosphere, but also help to reduce costs, because wood is inexhaustible in Finland.
