What documentaries give a true picture of China's lifestyle and culture?
Documentaries, the best way to understand a country's lifestyle and culture, have been around for so many years. There have been many excellent documentaries.
I myself am a fan of documentaries, and often use different documentaries for my meals.
Today, I'll share some documentaries that I personally feel can showcase the Chinese lifestyle and culture.
1. "Tongue on the tip of the Chinese tongue" the first
"Tongue on the tip of the Chinese tongue" the first season of the broadcast, I was still in the first year of college, at that time I have not traveled, and I have not eaten much food outside.
At that time, my dormitory roommate told me that there was a documentary called "Tongue on China" which was very good, and I was dismissive of it. Because I was young and impetuous at the time, I thought documentaries were all drawn out and long. It was like an old woman's shroud.
It wasn't until after I watched the first episode of "Gifts of Nature" at dinner tonight. I realized how naive my previous opinion was.
It's not so much a documentary on food as it is a showcase of the lifestyle and culture of different parts of China. It always manages to unfold from different foods. Leading to every other aspect.
My personal favorite is the fourth episode of the first season, "The Taste of Time", which starts with our most everyday food, such as kimchi, pickles and air-dried vegetables, and introduces us to the traditional Chinese way of storing food and the reasons why different places have different techniques of preservation, and introduces us to the food while giving us a true picture of the customs and culture of the different places.
If I had to choose one documentary to rank in the c-suite. It would definitely be the first season of "Tongue Tied".
2. "Flavors of the World"
Flavors of the World is similar to "Tongue on China" in that it also starts with food and introduces Chinese lifestyle and culture. Its director is Chen Xiaoqing, just like "Tongue-tied China". But this time, he didn't use the same narrative techniques as in "Tong Jian Shang China".
Flavors of the World has a broader perspective, not just on domestic food, but on the world. It looks at how the same ingredients are cooked in different lifestyles and cultures. It's the contrast that makes it stand out.
Chinese culture is introverted but not overbearing. As Tencent Video's Flavor of the World slogan says, "Examining the uniqueness of Chinese cuisine from a global perspective. I think we can say the same thing about Chinese lifestyle and culture in a global perspective.
If China on the tip of the tongue is a flat narrative, then Flavor of the World is a more poignant and contrasting cultural documentary. It's like the flesh of a salmon, layered yet intertwined.
3. "New Year's Paintings"
New Year's Paintings should be something that every Chinese knows.
From the door god in Guangdong, to the window flower in Northeast China. Although the ways of expression are different, they are all a kind of painting carrier unique to our China.
It is also one of the specific ways to reflect the Chinese way of life as well as culture.
There are thousands of ways to express Chinese New Year paintings. However, the two most traditional themes of Chinese New Year paintings are repelling evil spirits and praying for good fortune.
From the traditional folk woodblock prints to the modern hard brushing techniques, we can see the great diversity of cultures in different parts of China, and we are also surprised at the variety of ways to express the same material. In addition to printmaking, there are also various ways of painting, paper-cutting, watercolor, and offset printing, which are also divided into monochrome, color, black and white, and other modes.
This is a documentary that showcases Chinese culture and lifestyle through "painting", and is not to be missed.
