What are the national musical instruments of the Dai nationality?
Dai is the main ethnic group in Thailand and Laos, the second largest ethnic group in Myanmar and a minority in China and other countries. Dai people in China mainly live in western and southern Yunnan. Due to different folk cultures, Dai music has its own unique national style.
Dai music includes folk songs, song and dance music, rap music and opera music. No matter which one, it is closely related to its national musical instruments. Different musical instruments can better show the diversity and connotation of their musical forms.
Brief introduction of Dai national musical instruments
The common national musical instruments of Dai people are cucurbit flute, elephant foot drum, bawu and so on. Gourd Xiao, also known as gourd silk, has a beautiful pronunciation, a slight nasal sound and a melancholy rhythm. The elephant foot drum is named after its appearance like a big foot, and is widely used in song and dance and Dai opera accompaniment. Bawu is a reed-vibrating musical instrument, shaped like a flute and full of national characteristics.
