Titus Flavio Josephus (37 - 100 CE) also known as Josephus, and named Joseph ben Matityahu in the Hebrew Bible, was born in Jerusalem in what was then the Roman province of Judea, and was a Jewish historian in the first century CE, whose masterpieces include Ancient History of Judea and The Jewish Wars. He served as an officer in the Jewish rebel army during the First Jewish-Roman War, and after his surrender served the Roman government as a staff officer and interpreter, and was granted Roman citizenship.
