Yi people's Spring Festival custom

Kill pigs and eat pig rice.

No matter how many pigs are prepared, there must always be a white or black male castrated pig. In the first year of Chinese New Year, I chose it, saying, "This is the pig for Chinese New Year", but I asked the Bodhisattva to bless the healthy growth of the pig for Chinese New Year. It is very grand for Yi people to kill pigs in the New Year.

First of all, you must determine when your family will kill pigs in the twelfth lunar month, and then determine a specific day during this period. It is a solemn custom for the Yi people to kill pigs, and they can't do it at will. You must invite people to kill pigs, commonly known as "eating and killing pigs", ranging from two or three tables to more than a dozen tables. The invited guests are basically old people, relatives and friends in the village.

Historical origin

There are many legends about the origin of the Year of the Yi nationality in various regions of the Yi nationality, among which the most popular one is: A long time ago, there was a young Yi man named Ao Bouxin who respected his mother, but for some reason, his mother was unhappy all the year round. In order to make his mother happy, he racked his brains and tried his best, but to no avail.

One year after the autumn harvest, Xiaobu slaughtered chickens and sheep, worshipped ancestors, invited neighbors and relatives and friends to get together, and everyone laughed and laughed in the pot field, finally making his depressed mother smile. Daisuke's long-cherished wish has finally come true.

To commemorate this unforgettable day, he holds the same activity every year after the autumn harvest. In this way, the Yi people have been handed down from generation to generation, which has become an important traditional festival for the Yi people to remember their ancestors.
