Generally speaking, you have to choose a good research direction, and the research direction should not be too big, otherwise the research is not only difficult to do, but also easy to be empty. For example, the impact of ancient architecture protection on villages can be divided into the impact on the living environment of villages, the impact on local infrastructure changes, the impact on the employment and migration of local residents, the impact on local landscapes, and the impact on local living patterns. So you can study some data. For example, the living pattern and settlement distribution can be counted from the previous local historical data, and it is easier to make a change map.

Secondly, when you do this research, you can not only go to places that are well protected, but also go to villages where ancient buildings have declined because of urban development, so that you can have a comparison and facilitate writing.

Travel inspection must be determined according to the subjects you choose. Planning, field research, local historical data collection and local residents' questionnaire survey all need to be arranged, so you not only need to take a lot of photos, but also need to do literature research in local libraries and other places, and do a good job of questionnaire survey according to your research direction, so as to implement it.

I don't know much about planning and the investigation of urban nature. Isn't the nature of a city generally judged by its main functions? If it is a tourist city, it can be considered from the aspects of urban historical changes, organizational structure development, socio-economic data, cultural and folk traditions and so on. If it is a plan, it is also necessary to collect the plans of each period and analyze the factors of plan change.
