In my opinion, before the 20th century, China was still in an era of feudal backwardness. At that time, advanced building materials had not been introduced. People's ideas are conservative, and the supply of wood is still satisfactory. However, after entering the 20th century, some disadvantages of wood structure buildings have gradually emerged.

1. Forests are being cut down gradually, and there is less and less wood.

In the past, in feudal society, a lot of wood was needed for the construction of many palaces, but with the deterioration of ecological environment, a lot of wood became less and less, which also limited the further development of wood structure. It can be said that after entering the 20th century, it will be difficult for wood structures to become the mainstream of architecture!

Second, the wood structure building has poor fire resistance.

As we all know, buildings with wood and masonry structures are more likely to cause fires in terms of fire resistance. This is why there are few wooden buildings in China for thousands of years, while there are many temples and palaces with masonry structures in the west!

Third, space constraints also limit the development of wood structures.

For traditional wooden buildings, it is difficult to meet the further requirements for space, whether it is cantilever or bucket, and the use of wood is also very large, which also limits its development, because it is at a disadvantage in the competition of masonry structures!

After entering the 20th century, with the development of social economy, the progress of rural areas and the introduction of new materials and technologies, masonry structure has gradually become the mainstream architectural style in urban and rural areas because of its low cost, easily available materials, high fire resistance and strong spatial plasticity.
