During the Republic of China, why should Chinese medicine be banned?
After the Opium War, with the spread of western learning to the east, western medicine gradually entered China. Chinese medicine and western medicine, both treating diseases and saving lives, should have gone hand in hand and reached the same goal by different routes. There is no distinction between good and bad. The dispute between Chinese medicine and western medicine has a long history. The prohibition of drugs in traditional Chinese medicine began in Daoguang and flourished in the Republic of China.
In A.D. 1822, Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty, who ascended the throne for only one year, suddenly issued an imperial edict: "Acupuncture is a long-standing method, but it is not suitable for you to use fire needle acupuncture. Acupuncture in Taiji Hospital is a topic that will stop forever. " Why on earth should it be banned? It is still a big suspense in the Qing Dynasty.
Beiyang government gave the green light to western medicine and concocted the famous "case of Chinese medicine missing from the education system"
19 12, Beiyang government demanded that only western medicine was the only child in the whole medical education system, and Chinese medicine was excluded. At first, the Ministry of Education of Beiyang government only used "inaction" to set the tone in a semi-hidden way.
A year later, Wang Daxie, the chief of education, strongly suggested abolishing Chinese medicine. It was abolished for two reasons. First, Chinese medicine is out of date, which is a deceptive trick of feudal superstition. Second, the school system is based on the Japanese school system. During the Meiji Restoration in Japan, Chinese medicine was abolished.
The application of new diagnostic methods undoubtedly puts "looking, smelling, asking and feeling" at a disadvantage to some extent. The dialectical pursuit of traditional Chinese medicine is to treat both the symptoms and the root causes, which is completely different from the fast food style of western medicine. The exclusion of Chinese medicine is the biggest blow to the Chinese medicine industry, followed by the lack of treatment options for many patients, forming a monopoly of western medicine.
In order to save themselves, local Chinese medicine organizations and medical associations organized a "medical salvation petition group" to recommend representatives to Beijing to petition the Ministry of Education and the State Council. Just before taking action, the Ministry of Education intervened again. Announce the rules of universities, medical colleges and pharmaceutical colleges, and exclude Chinese medicine from the government education system.
In the end, the Ministry of Education of Beiyang Government and the State Council both gave instructions that TCM was "not the latest theory" and "had no complete scientific knowledge". The most bitter thing is that the students who just finished studying Chinese medicine got a paper diploma like waste paper.
Although Chinese medicine won a great victory in the "Chinese and Western Medicine Competition", it still could not stop the violent suppression of Chinese medicine by the national government, and it was the national government that exerted the greatest pressure. According to the Biography of Ding Ganren, as early as the Beiyang government, Chinese and Western medicine once held a contest in Shanghai. Dr. Yang from Guangci Hospital asked the famous doctor Ding Ganren if he had the courage to challenge western medicine with Chinese medicine. Dr Ding Ganren did his best, and they finally agreed to set up a clinic in Guangci Hospital.
1 typhoid fever patients were selected from the inpatient department of Guangci Hospital, and the treatment time was limited to 20 days. Dr Ding Ganren drew a 35-year-old Frenchman. After taking five kinds of Chinese herbal medicines, the patient basically recovered. Results Twenty days later, the foreign dean of Guangci Hospital announced to many reporters that Chinese medicine had won.
Even so, at the first meeting of the Central Health Committee held in 1929, the national government passed the case of abolishing old doctors to remove medical and health obstacles, and stipulated six specific measures to abolish Chinese medicine. That is, "the case of abolishing Chinese medicine". The fourth and fifth items are equivalent to declaring Chinese medicine unscientific. (4) It is forbidden to introduce old doctors in newspapers; 5. Check news magazines and prohibit unscientific medical propaganda. )
At this time, Chinese medicine was portrayed as witchcraft, and Yu Yunxiu, a western doctor who had studied in Japan, was the most active and strongly demanding the abolition of Chinese medicine. He believes that Chinese medicine is "the culprit of killing people" and demands that Chinese medicine be eliminated within 50 years.
