1, Cao Cao is eager to unify the defeat of Huarong Road

Cao Cao in the capture of Jingzhou, non-stop, leading more than 200,000 land and water armies down the river to the east. Cao Cao planned to destroy Liu Bei and Sun Quan in one fell swoop, realizing his ambition to unify the country. However, he was overwhelmed by the victory and was proud of the enemy, which led him to be burned by the Sun-Liu allied forces at the Red Cliffs, and to flee in fear, losing at Huarong Road.

Cao Cao's ships were burned, and he led his army back on foot through the Huarong Road. The road was muddy and impassable, and the wind was blowing that day, making it even more difficult to walk. Cao Cao ordered his weak soldiers to cut grass to make way for the road, but the soldiers were trampled by the men and horses, sinking deep into the mud and dying in countless ways. Cao Cao laughed when he saw that the army was about to pass through the Huarong Road.

The generals were already in a sorry state, but when they saw Cao Cao laughing, they were puzzled and asked why he was laughing. Cao Cao said, "Liu Bei's talent is on par with mine, but his schemes are always one step behind mine; if he had sent his horses to Huarong Road to set it on fire, we would have been wiped out." As soon as Cao Cao's words were out of his mouth, scouts reported that Liu Bei's pursuers were starting to light fires downwind. But Cao Cao's army had already passed through Huarong Road and was headed for Jiangling.

2. Pulling up seedlings to help them grow

There was a man in the state of Song, who saw the crops of other people's homes grow well, and always felt that his own crops grew too slowly, and was very anxious. One day he suddenly came up with a good way, so they will be their own ground seedlings one by one all pulled up one. He was very happy to see his own crops grow taller than those of others all of a sudden.

Returning home, he proudly said to his family, "I'm exhausted today, and I've made all the crops in the field grow a whole lot taller by myself!" His son, after hearing his detailed description, immediately ran to the field to see what had happened, only to find that all the seedlings in their house had withered.

3. Duke Jing's Sprint

On one occasion, Duke Jing of Qi went to the East China Sea for a trip. Suddenly, a postman came flying from the capital city and reported to Duke Jing, "Prime Minister Yan Ying is seriously ill and in critical condition, so please return with all haste, or it will be difficult for you to see him for the last time."

Duke Jing heard this and stood up in a hurry. At that moment, another postman arrived on horseback, urging Duke Jing to return quickly. Duke Jing was so anxious that he shouted, "Quickly prepare a good carriage and horses, and let Zouzi Hanshu drive for me, and go back with all speed!"

After Zuzi had driven about a few hundred paces, Duke Jing was so anxious that he thought Zuzi was driving too slowly that he grabbed the reins and drove the car himself. He drove and harnessed the horse for a few hundred paces, and then, suspecting that the horse was not trying hard enough to move forward, he simply abandoned the car and ran away on foot himself. Duke Jing of Qi was so anxious that he jumped off the carriage four times on his way back to the city, and ended up crying as he walked, causing the car to arrive at the capital nearly a day later than expected, and Yanzi had already died.

4. The Story of the Fruit Farmer's Son

There was an old fruit farmer who had terminal cancer and knew that he would soon die. One day, he said he wanted to accept the finished peaches planted by his two sons during his illness, so as to decide the proportion of the inheritance.

The eldest son was a loyal and gentle nature, and did things openly and honestly, down-to-earth, and carefully selected not too small but beautiful color, solid and full, a whole basket of water honey file peach. The youngest son has always been active, some over-ambitious, all pick big, even slightly rotten peach, loaded like a small mountain.

The two brothers were happy to carry the peaches down the mountain, but the younger brother's overloaded peaches could not withstand the bumpy road and tipped over, destroying them; the older brother, on the other hand, had a safe journey, and finished presenting the peaches to his father, who trusted him with 60% of the land.

5. The Story of Zixia

Zixia was a student of Confucius. One year, Zixia was sent to be a magistrate in Jufu (now in Juxian County, Shandong Province). Before he left, he paid a special visit to his teacher and asked Confucius for advice, saying, "May I ask, how can I govern a place well?"

Confucius said to Zixia with great enthusiasm: " To govern a place is a very complicated thing. However, if you grasp the root, it is also very simple."

After explaining to Zixia some of the things he should pay attention to, Confucius repeatedly instructed: "There is no desire to be quick, and there is no desire to see a small advantage. If you want to be quick, you will not be able to achieve; if you see small benefits, you will not be able to achieve great things."
