Xuan paper is a specialty of Jing County, Xuancheng City, Anhui Province, and a National Geographical Indication product. During the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty, among the tributes shipped from all over the country to Chang'an, the capital city, Xuancheng County had "paper, pens" and other tributes in its ships, which indicated that Xuancheng County had already been producing paper and pens. Provenance of Xuanpaper

Xuanpaper first appeared in the Tang Dynasty, originated in the Tang Dynasty, produced in Xuancheng, Anhui Province. Its production process and materials are unique, with green sandalwood bark and straw as raw materials, processed through a number of procedures. Xuan paper is characterized by its lightness, softness, good water absorption, durability and unique texture, making it a traditional paper for calligraphy and painting and one of the treasures of Chinese culture.

Anhui is one of the main production areas of Chinese Xuan paper, among which the Xuan paper of Jing County is the most famous. Jing County is the birthplace of Chinese rice paper, with a long history and cultural heritage. The production process of Xuan paper in Jingxian is tedious and complicated, requiring multiple procedures and handwork to complete, making it more expensive but of excellent quality. Besides Anhui, Xuan paper is also produced and sold in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Sichuan.
