On December 1, 1948, the People's Bank of China was established in Shijiazhuang, in the liberated areas of North China, and began issuing banknotes, the first set of renminbi, on the day of its establishment. This set of RMB*** has 12 denominations, with the largest denomination being 50,000 yuan and the smallest being 1 yuan. The six words "People's Bank of China" on the face of the banknote were inscribed by Comrade Dong Biwu, who was then Chairman of the People's Government of North China and presided over the financial work of the Central Committee of the People's Republic of China***.
Because China was in a period of liberation war, the People's Liberation Army fought wherever the RMB was issued, so the first set of RMB has been in Shijiazhuang, Beiping, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xi'an, Shenyang and other dozen of places to print, as many as 62 kinds of pages.
