Valentine's Day in China, also known as Qiaoqi Festival, Qijie Festival, Daughter's Day, Qiqiaoqiao Festival, Qixi Festival, Qiaoxi Festival, Niu Niu Po Festival and Qixi Festival, are traditional folk festivals in China, which is Qi Jie's birthday in the traditional sense. It was named Tanabata, because the worship of Seven Sisters was held on July 7th. It is the traditional custom of Qixi to worship the seven sisters, pray, seek skillful art, sit and watch morning glory and weave stars, pray for marriage and store water on Qixi.
China Valentine's Day originated in China and is the earliest love festival in the world. Some of the many folk customs of Valentine's Day in China have gradually disappeared, but a considerable part of them have survived. In some Asian countries influenced by China culture, such as Japan, Korean Peninsula and Viet Nam, there is also a tradition of celebrating Qixi. On May 20th, 2006, China Valentine's Day was listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage by People's Republic of China (PRC) and the State Council.
