What is January 1, New Year's Day?
January 1 of the Gregorian New Year is commonly known as "New Year's Day" or "New Year's Day" in most countries. In China, the concept of "New Year's Day" has traditionally referred to the first day of the first month. "The method of calculating the first month of the year was not uniform until the time of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty.
Therefore, the month and day of New Year's Day were not consistent throughout the ages. The Xia calendar of the Xia period used spring January as the first month, the Yin calendar of the Shang period used winter December as the first month, and the Zhou calendar of the Zhou period used winter November as the first month. After the unification of China by Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first day of October was New Year's Day, with October in winter as the first month. From Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty onwards, the first day of January in spring was stipulated as the first month, and the first day of January was called New Year's Day, which was used until the end of the Qing Dynasty.
Expanded Information:
Legendary information p>Legend has it that more than 4,000 years ago, in the ancient times of Yao and Shun, when Yao was in power, he did a lot of good things for the people, and was very popular among the people, but because of his son's lack of talent, he did not pass the leadership of the "tribal alliance" to his own son, but rather passed it to Shun, who was a person of both character and talent. Yao said to Shun, "You must pass on the throne well, so that when I die, I can rest in peace."
Then Shun passed the throne to Yu, who had been successful in curing the floods, and Yu did a lot of good things for the people like Shun did, and was very popular among the people.
Later, people regarded the day when Emperor Shun offered sacrifices to heaven and earth and the late Emperor Yao after Yao's death as the beginning of the year, and called the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar "New Year's Day", or "New Year's Day". There is also the first day of the first month (New Year's Day) from one of the three emperors Zhuan Xu legend, more than 5,000 years ago. This is said to be the origin of the ancient "New Year's Day".
