The Miao family's ancient papermaking workshop produces two kinds of white and colored leather paper, its production process, and the Han Dynasty Song Yingxing by the "Tian Gong Kaifu" recorded in the illustrations are basically the same. This is the conclusion reached by the expert research of the Chinese History Museum. It is believed that its pestle, pestle rod, water wheel, crank shaft and other forms and construction, and "Tian Gong Kai Wu" on the water pestle diagrams are the same.
The raw materials used in the production of white paper are structured hemp and cedar roots. It is very similar to the "Hou Han Shu - Cai Lun biography" cloud: "use tree skin, hemp head, my cloth, fishnet for paper". It is recognized as a papermaking process in the period from the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty. In 2005, the Miao ancient papermaking process was listed as the first intangible cultural heritage by the state.

"Intangible cultural heritage" is the opposite of "tangible cultural heritage" and is collectively called "cultural heritage".
In December 2020, with the successful inscription of "Taijiquan" and "Rituals and Related Practices for the Sustainable Connection between People and the Sea", China has 42 items inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List, the largest in the world.
