What is a five-entry building (e.g., the Drainage House compound)?
Five-entry architecture is the level of courtyards. Pentagonal style refers to the architectural layout of a large courtyard, i.e. there are five closed or independent courtyards after entering the main gate.
The Dui family compound is a traditional residential building built in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, located in Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, where the owner built 40 courtyards in the county, known as the "Dui Half City". The entire complex has a total area of 23,628 square meters, and has now developed 7,500 square meters. The entire compound is grand and solemn, high and majestic, with a serene atmosphere, exuding the spirit, temperament and charm of traditional Chinese culture.
The five-entry courtyard is rare in China. The Minglou Courtyard, Tulou Courtyard, Balustrade Courtyard, and Theater Courtyard are skillfully combined and staggered. With different forms of overhanging roofs, hermetic roofs, scroll roofs and hard roofs, and a clear distinction between primary and secondary, it concentrates traditional Chinese cultural elements and deep artistic heritage, and has a very high cultural, artistic and humanistic value.

I. Architectural Layout
The whole compound, with the appearance of a castle pattern and palisade-style daughter walls, is divided into 8 large courtyards and 19 quadrangular courtyards, ****240 houses, covering an area of 5,317 square meters. Between the courtyards, there are pagodas and halls, forming a wonderful pattern of courtyards set in courtyards and gates connected to gates. Among them, the stone-carved balustrade courtyard, the five-entry style courtyard, the pagoda courtyard, and the theater courtyard are the four major architectural features of the Dui Family Courtyard.
The pagoda is majestic and magnificent, the pavilion is exquisite and delicate, and there are halls and pagodas separating the courtyards, which are distinct and lively. Inside and outside the house is magnificently painted, piling up gold and leaching powder. Wood, stone and brick carvings can be seen, with a wide range of subjects, symbolizing peace, and excellent knife skills.

Drainage family is one of the nationally renowned since the Ming and Qing dynasties Jinzhong merchants, Qixian City, Shanxi Province, there are more than a dozen compound, more than 1,000 houses, covering an area of more than 30,000 square meters, known as the "Drainage half of the city".
Drainage family seventeen generations of the famous three big money masters: Tianxi Caijiu (Drainage Yuanchao), Wang Caijiu (Drainage Yuanzhen), Jin Caijiu (Drainage Yuanjin). Drainage Yuanchao (first grandson of Drainage Jinshan word Renfu) residence is located in Qixian City, East Street, No. 33, was built in the Qing dynasty during the Qianlong period.
