January 1 of the lunar calendar is one of the most important holidays in Korea. In Korea, on the morning of New Year's Day, the ancestors are worshipped (food and drink are offered to the ancestors and a big ceremony is performed). It means the beginning of a new year. In the past, on New Year's Eve, all the lights in the house were kept on to drive away bad luck and pray for good fortune to come. Now, regardless of superstition, or according to custom.
