What is the process of making lanterns?

It consists of five types of work: artist, fitter, mechanic, electrician and paperhanger.

First, art lofting

The first step is the layout of the artist. Professional artists draw "front view" and "side view" on the ground according to the actual size of 1: 1, and the key parts are also marked with specific technology. Mainly to let workers know the structure of colored lights.

Second, the fitter three-dimensional modeling

Many people think that the "skeleton" of lanterns is made of bamboo, wood products or fine iron wire, but in fact its "skeleton" is made of 6 to 10 mm steel bars.

When the artist puts the "sample" in place, the lantern masters will cut each steel bar according to the pattern, and some of them need to be bent into different shapes to make lantern parts. Then, these lantern parts are welded together to form the "skeleton" of the lantern.

Third, mechanics make lanterns come alive.

Technicians use the "skeleton" of colored lights welded by locksmiths to mechanically drive them to move, making the colored lights full of appreciation and participation.

Four. Built-in light source of power supply

Electricians need to install light bulbs in fully shaped lanterns that need to be "moved", which is called "wearing inside" in industry jargon. In this link, the main purpose is to install lamps, circuits,

Lamps, etc. Seepage protection should be carried out according to relevant national standards to cope with the frequent rain and snow weather in winter.

Fifth, the paperhanger is meticulous in pasting color.

When the skeleton, transmission and penetration are completed, they should be attached to the skeleton. The pasting work is a meticulous work, and the cloth strips should be laid flat, so that the lanterns made will look full and beautiful. After the colored cloth strips cover the surface of lanterns, they should be wrapped with gold cloth strips. Such colorful lights will be dazzling.

The last step in making lanterns is coloring. Artists will spray different gradient colors on lanterns with pigments to make them more beautiful.

At this point, a set of colored lights is basically completed. Since then, there have been jobs such as installation and cable arrangement. As for the characteristic lamp group made of medicine bottles, silkworm chrysalis, porcelain, discs, etc., its manufacturing technology and working procedure are more complicated. It can be said that tying lanterns is an organic combination of art and skill. Generally speaking, it takes at least 50 working hours to make a group of lanterns about 6 meters long.
