GIS Map: What is it

GIS, full name: Geographic Information Science, the abbreviation of Geographic Information Science.

It is a technical system supported by computer hardware and software systems to collect, store, manage, calculate, analyze, display and describe relevant geographical distribution data in the entire or part of the earth's surface (including the atmosphere) space.

Proposed by Goodchild in 1992, compared with geographic information system, it focuses more on treating geographic information as a science rather than just a technical implementation. It mainly studies the application of computer technology to process, store, extract and extract geographic information.

In a GIS project, the most time-consuming part is often the collection and cleaning of data.

The collection of data is often not something that individuals can do. Most GISers use so-called "secondary data", that is, data that already exists and has been collected by other individuals and organizations.

Data often includes free data and paid data. Free data (in the United States) is usually collected by governments or non-profit organizations, while paid data is usually collected by commercial companies.

The data used in GIS is usually divided into two parts. One part is the map part, which is the displayed area. For example, census data will be presented on a map divided according to census areas, and the other part is the data part, also called the Attribute Table.

This table is more like what we imagine "data" should look like, and it looks like excel when opened.
