Is eating corn harmful to your health?
Eating fresh corn has three harmless health benefits: 1. Fresh corn contains a lot of natural vitamin E, which has the functions of promoting cell division, delaying cell aging, lowering serum cholesterol, preventing skin lesions, relieving arteriosclerosis and brain function decline. Vitamin A in fresh corn also has some auxiliary preventive and therapeutic effects on common dry eye, tracheitis, dry skin and nerve paralysis in middle-aged and elderly people. Fresh corn is rich in lysine (rarely found in dry corn), which is an essential nutrient for human body. Studies have found that eating more fresh corn can also inhibit the side effects of anticancer drugs on the human body. 2. Fresh corn contains a lot of cellulose, and its content is 6~8 times that of polished rice and refined flour. Plant fiber can maintain the normal ratio of bile salts and cholesterol, thus reducing the deposition of cholesterol in the bile duct system and preventing the formation and occurrence of gallstones; Plant fiber can also combine with bile acids in the intestine to form nonabsorbable compounds, which can accelerate the excretion of bile acids and promote the degradation of cholesterol in the liver, thus reducing the concentration of cholesterol in the blood, and avoiding cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as hypertension, cerebral infarction and coronary heart disease caused by high cholesterol concentration in the blood (dyslipidemia), which are constantly deposited on the blood vessel wall, thickening the arterial wall and narrowing the lumen. Cellulose can also make the stool smooth. Foods containing more plant fiber can increase the volume of stool, stimulate the peristalsis of intestinal wall, make stool excreted faster and reduce the toxicity to intestinal wall. Therefore, eating corn regularly can prevent constipation, hemorrhoids and rectal cancer, and can also reduce the occurrence of gastrointestinal diseases. 3. Chewing hard when eating fresh corn can exercise teeth, promote saliva secretion and firm gums. If old people have bad teeth, they can make some fresh corn porridge to drink.
