The Yi in the county call themselves "Nisu" and "Parkla". The "Cigarette Box Dance" is a traditional folk dance favored by the Yi people around Jianshui and Shiping. When the dance starts, the leader plays the ukulele and dances while playing it, and the rest of the young men and women play the cigarette box, line up in rows, form a circle, and dance with the sound of the zither in a rough and dashing manner. The dancers hold the box in both hands, with shoulders shrugged and arms swinging back and forth, with inherent rhythmic force, playing the box on every strong beat of the dance, followed by hand and foot movements once. The four strings play the role of lead and accompaniment in the dance.
