What do you usually think of a pop star concert? What about eye-popping (眩目的) stage design, mysterious guest singers or sensational (众取宠的) costumes?

The answer is yes, for most singers. But there was no talk of David Tao in concert. "I'm not going to invite guests to finish. I'm not going to dance, take off my clothes or dress up like a peacock (孔雀) to attract attention," Dao said. He held a concert on March 1 in Beijing.

Should a concert be offered, Dao insists there is nothing more than music. "A flashy (dazzling) concert is the easy thing to do, but empty. For me, the music and the interaction come first."

The Dao tour will include Hong Kong, Singapore and several other cities. It's expected to end in June.

Dao has been in the music industry since 1997. Quality best describes his work. With six albums in 10 years, the 38-year-old singer is not prolific (prolific), but he has achieved a lot more than other singers in China who have produced 10 or more albums in a short time.

Known as the "Godfather of the Blues" in China, he has now become an innovator in the Chinese music industry. His albums have won awards at various awards ceremonies in Asia for (his) lyrics, simple rhythms, conscious rhythms) and creative combinations (traditional sounds, like Peking Opera and traditional Chinese musical instruments.

Tao's parents were stars in Taiwan. His father was an actor, singer, and composer, while his mother was a Peking Opera artist.

"I've always listened to the most stylish mix of types of music, my father played Elvis Presley's (Room) songs and my mom sang Peking Opera on the other hand," you joked Tao.

Dao said he will release a new album after that, and then he will play the role of a movie director in "Journey". Preparations for the movie have already begun, and it will be released in 2009.

"After the concert, I'll switch my focus. I hope I can make it follow."
