Most of China's traditional festivals come from ridiculous legends. For example, the New Year. Legend has it that the New Year is a man-eating monster, so the whole country needs to make a lot of noise to drive it away. The funny thing is, after countless years of driving away, the monster, "Nian", is always still alive.
Chinese people live in the lunar year, in fact, to celebrate the solar year. "Er Ya - release the sky," said: "Xia said the year, the Shang said the ritual, the Zhou said the year." This shows that as early as the Zhou Dynasty, the Chinese began to calculate time by the change of seasons and the glory of plants. And this time was determined by the relative positions of the sun and the earth.
Nian (年), the Chinese character for "year," is an ideogram for "man" with "禾" above it, "谷孰也,从禾", in Shuo Wen (说文); it is similar in Jin Wen (金文); and in Seal Characters (篆体), the character for "man" will be The Seal Script has changed the word "人" to "千". The Guliang Zhuan (谷粱传) says: "When all the grains are ripe, there is a year; when all the grains are ripe, there is a great year."
See, the New Year's Eve custom of the long lasting probably has the following factors: (1) China has long been a small peasant economy. So far, urbanites have lacked atmosphere for New Year's Eve. (2) The New Year is a celebration of the need for agricultural production. (3) Chinese New Year is mainly about consuming food, however, there is no spiritual food. (4) Chinese people have been tired of eating all their lives, so our biggest wish for the year is to have a good harvest in agriculture or to be able to eat a round belly. (5) The Chinese view of time is cyclical and circular; and lacks a rational form of time concept. (6) Chinese celebrations lack the content of social **** life, and are dominated by the sneaking pleasure of one's own family. Of course, this is also the poison of Confucian ethics. (7) The Chinese way of celebrating is dominated by juggling. The dragon and lion dances in the countryside are juggling, and the New Year's Eve movies and Spring Festival gala that urbanites watch are likewise juggling. When it comes to festivals, the whole of China is a sideshow.
Think about it, in addition to giving gifts to the leaders, and relatives and friends to sip a few meals, will be full of themselves, tired of half dead, traditional festivals have what more content? Luckily, I have to go to work tomorrow. However, going to work is also quite boring. Because most Chinese people who "go to work" don't create wealth, especially the many public **** departments that could use a long vacation. That way, the normal life of the people would be much smoother. China is a rich man's paradise, and the rich have New Year's Eve every day, and no one dares to care.
Stop with the small talk. Let's talk about why the flavor of Chinese New Year has been fading over the past 20 years. The reason is probably nothing more than: (1) the traditional family ethic is too small, more and more unable to satisfy people's desire for social **** life and collective celebration. Ask: in the traditional festivals, we in addition to worship their ancestors, who else can worship? In addition to CCTV's Spring Festival Gala, what other programs are available? How many people will care about the poorer classes except for their own closed doors to drink good wine and eat well? (2) The Western world accepts and congratulates the Chinese style of Spring Festival, but we lack the breadth of mind to accept and promote foreign civilizations. As a result, the Chinese people celebrate foreign festivals only for the sake of formality and bustle. Of course, more Chinese people do not celebrate foreign festivals, and at the same time, they do not have much enthusiasm for traditional festivals. This is a manifestation of "no greater sorrow than death of the heart". (3) China does not have the playful color of festivals; China does not have the joyful color of festivals; China does not have the spiritual color of festivals. This is the ultimate reason why traditional Chinese festivals are bound to fade away. In a society where the rich class and the middle class are already quite affluent in material life, these people have no reason to care about the society because of their spiritual sleepiness and parochial vision. In this way, the public ****ness of festivals will slowly disappear.
Chinese people only have "practical reason", despite the Confucian ethics, but the psychology of gratitude is not really cultivated, because we do not know to whom we should give thanks. The reason is that the Chinese people's sense of "life power" is almost zero, but the sense of "political power" has been promoted to infinity. At the same time, Chinese people have no spiritual beliefs, so we never have a sense of repentance in our hearts. Without a sense of repentance, people are left to their own devices, and there is a lack of care for each other. We have neither social care, nor ethical care, nor ultimate care, and therefore the Chinese festivals are filled with nothing but utilitarian calculations. This is very obvious in the countryside. On the surface, everyone is busy giving gifts, but parents also tell their children who are good and who are bad. So, even though gifts are given to some people, in their hearts they curse them. This style, subconsciously, is the ancient legacy of the pursuit of a "great year".
To make China's traditional festivals better, there is only one way, that is, we must be culturally inclusive, fetishism. Only after enough openness, the original traditions can be "resurrected". However, this "resurrected tradition" will no longer be able to become mainstream and dominate our spiritual life. Festivals will become people's free choice and their own needs. The reason why the flavor of Chinese New Year is fading is that our spiritual pursuit is getting higher and higher. We have been trapped by tradition for too long, and we need to embrace the outside world as soon as possible.
