The Characteristics of Xiangsheng

Xiangsheng is a form of Chinese opera in which jokes or comical questions and answers are told to make the audience laugh. It evolved from the Song Dynasty's "Xiangsheng" (像生). In the late refined era, the comedy formed a modern character and style. It is mainly spoken in Beijing dialect, but there are also "dialect comedies" spoken in local dialects.
