Hubei University is a comprehensive university located in Wuhan, Hubei Province. It is one of the selected universities in the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in the Midwest" and a "double-class" construction university in Hubei Province. The school, formerly known as Hubei Institute of Education, was founded in 193 1 and renamed Hubei University in 1984. The history of Hubei University can be traced back to Hubei Institute of Education, which was founded in 193 1. 1938, the school moved to Enshi in the west and changed its name to Hubei United Middle School. 1945, the school moved back to Wuhan and changed its name to Wuchang Teachers College in Hubei Province. 1958, the school was renamed Hubei Normal University. 1977, after the resumption of the college entrance examination, the school was confirmed as an undergraduate college and renamed Wuhan Normal University. 1984, the school was renamed Hubei University.

In 2003, Hubei Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education signed a document to establish Hubei University. On 20 18, the school became a "Ministry-Provincial Joint Construction" university of Hubei Provincial People's Government and Ministry of Education.
