Ask a question about the god of wealth.
The following is the legend:
The god of wealth is also divided into civilian and military. Zhao Gongming and Guandi are called Wu Caishen, and Wenchang Emperor is called the God of Wealth. Although the civil and military ways are different, they all have their own wealth to earn. It is said that the god of wealth is enshrined by the rich, and those who have no money will not show their spirits. There is a folk story of "The Goddess of Wealth divorced his wife": Once upon a time, there was always a dignified and beautiful goddess of wealth in the Temple of Wealth. Later, the kind female bodhisattva suddenly disappeared. It turned out that she was divorced by the god of wealth. Why did the God of Wealth divorce his wife? This starts with a beggar. A beggar was very poor. He passed an ancient temple. After entering the temple, he never worshipped any bodhisattva. He just touched the statue of God of Wealth, then bowed and begged God of Wealth to give him money. When Marshal Zhao Gong saw that he was a beggar, he thought he couldn't even give up some incense sticks, but he still came to ask for money. There are so many poor beggars in the world, can I help them? But beggars think the opposite. He believes that the God of Wealth will always help the poor. What's the use of asking for money if rich people don't know how to eat and dress? I've been worshipping. At this time, the god of wealth moved to hide his heart and wanted to wake up his dozing husband, persuade him to have a heart and give a little charity to the beggar. But the god of wealth ignored him, yawned twice and closed his eyes again. Although she is the god of wealth, the financial power is in the hands of her husband, who doesn't nod. How can she give money to beggars? The queen had no choice but to take off her earrings and throw them to the beggar. Suddenly, the beggar felt something thrown out of the shrine. When he saw that they were a pair of gold earrings, he knew that they were sent by the God of Wealth, and he kowtowed at once, even calling them "Goddess of Wealth kowtowing". When the god of wealth opened his eyes, he found that the queen had given the poor beggar what she had given her all those years. He was furious and drove the god of wealth out of the shrine. Since then, for hundreds of years, no poor man has made a fortune by worshipping the god of wealth.
Wenchang Emperor, also known as Zitong Emperor, is the patron saint of China's ancient articles, knowledge and bachelor's degree in imperial examinations, and scholars regard him as the god of wealth.
Since ancient times, China has advocated learning to be an excellent official. Rich and powerful people want to be officials in order to change their social status and bid farewell to poverty. So in this atmosphere, Wenchang belief came into being, and most students went to worship Wenchang Emperor.
Wenchang belief originated from China's star worship. According to the history book TianGuanShu, there are six stars on the Beidou, which are collectively called Wenchang Palace. All the stars in the palace can dominate people's fame and fortune. Since the Han Dynasty, the belief in Wenchang has never faded. Scholars should also invite a statue of Wenchang when they go out, so that they can pray at any time. Sacrifice to Wenchang emperor, country and family is essential.
There is a story in the Li Zhi of the Ming Dynasty. A man named Zhang Yazi moved to Zitong to avenge his mother's death, then went to help the State of Jin fight and died. People built a shrine in memory of him. During the Tang Dynasty, it was sealed many times and was called "Yingxian King". Taoism absorbed him into its own genealogy and arranged for him to be the master of Lu Si in Wenchang Pavilion, honoring this place name as the name of God. With the prosperity of imperial examinations in Song Dynasty, Zhang Yazi's belief followed. According to folklore, the scholar-bureaucrat sacrificed to Zhang Yazi, and he must be the prime minister. Jinshi's sacrifice to Zhang Yazi must go to the temple chief. Wang Anshi worshipped Zhang Yazi when he was young, and he was indeed a prime minister. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was named "Fuyuan Hua Kai Wenchang Lu Si Hongren Emperor", and most of the teachers and students in the school were admirers of Wenchang. By the Ming Dynasty, Wenchang Temple had been established in all the learning centers in the world. The Qing dynasty stipulated that the third day of February every year was Wenchang's birthday anniversary, and the court sent personnel to participate in sacrificial activities. What we are talking about now is actually the combination of Wenchang and Zitong. Some places call it "Wenquxing".
The image of Wenchang in history is elegant, riding a white donkey and taking two children. At present, the image of Wenchang Emperor in Shanghai Chenghuang Temple is sitting in the same position, wearing a robe and a beard, with gentle eyes, discerning eyes, wearing a jade official hat and full of books.
