Anyone who spends winter in the north always knows how to cook tea around the stove, or eat mutton, peel peanuts and drink for nothing. However, people with stoves, warm kang and other equipment, no matter how deep the snow is outside or whether the wind is thundering, live in the house for two or three months, but it is the most severe period of seclusion in a foreign land in a year; Needless to say, even children who like activities will always love them, because there are some fruits such as radishes and palms in the middle, and there are lively festivals such as New Year's Eve and Lantern Festival on the first day of the first month.

But in the south of the Yangtze River, the situation is different: after the winter solstice, the leaves in the south of the Yangtze River will not fall off completely. The morning cream was as white as the powder on the face of a woman in black. As soon as the sun is on the roof, birds chirp again, and water vapor is released from the soil. Old people and children can sit and chat in the gap in front of the door and camp outside. Isn't the winter scenery in Jiangnan lovely?

I grew up in Jiangnan, and I was deeply impressed by the winter in Jiangnan when I was a child. Although I gradually entered middle age and fell in love with late autumn, thinking that autumn is the favorite season for readers and writers, I always feel that the winter scenery in the south of the Yangtze River is a special mood, which can match the summer nights in the north. To put it more modestly, it is an obvious emotional appeal.

I have also been to Fujian and Guangdong, where it is extremely warm for the winter. Sometimes, at the end of the lunar calendar, I may have to take out my gauze shirt: I walked through the hedges of savages and saw many miscellaneous autumn flowers! It rained and thundered, and it was a little cooler. At most, I just wore a coat. Between Fujian and Guangdong, fur robe and cotton-padded jacket are absolutely unnecessary! This extreme southern climate is not what I call the winter scenery in the south of the Yangtze River, but Changchun in the south, which is an extension of spring or autumn.

Jiangnan has rich and humid geology, which can contain hot air and support plants; Therefore, in the Yangtze River area, the reed flowers can be unbeaten until the winter solstice, and the red leaves sometimes last for more than three months. Like the Chinese tallow tree on both sides of Qiantang River, the red leaves are lodging, and the branches are hung with white buds, which can be distinguished by the lens. The grass is ochre at most, and the roots are always green. Not only did the wildfire never completely engulf them, but the cold wind could not blow them down. If you are willing to go for a walk alone in the winter suburbs on a warm afternoon, you will not only feel the cold when you are young, but also feel an inexplicable hidden anger there: "When winter comes, spring will always come soon", which is the easiest to understand only in Shan Ye in the south of the Yangtze River.

Speaking of walking in the cold suburbs, it is really a special favor for Jiangnan residents in winter; People who grew up in the northern ice and snow have no chance to enjoy this kind of happiness all their lives. I don't know how the winter in Germany compares with the winter in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, but judging from the fact that many writers like to use the word Spaziergang as their creative theme, it is about the south of Germany, and the changes of the four seasons are always not much different from those in our south. For example, in the 19th century, the local poet Peter Rosegger1843-1918 wrote many articles on this topic, but most of his writings can be applied to the mountainous areas in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces of China.

The rivers and ports in the south of the Yangtze River are connected, the land is close to the sea, and there are many lakes and swamps, so sometimes the air contains moisture. There will be some light rain from time to time in winter. The scene of winter rain in this cold village is an indescribable leisurely realm. Think about it, after the autumn harvest, three or five families gathered in a small village by the river, with the door facing the long bridge and the window facing the mound in the distance, with many leafy trees in the middle; On this picture of the winter countryside, a layer of white rain as fine as powder is sprinkled with a light background. Do you feel free enough? If you want more scenery, you can park a boat with a sunshade in front of the door, add a few noisy drinkers to the hut, add red and yellow when it is dark, and draw a circle on the window of the hut to indicate a halo. "Chai Men village dogs bark, and people in the snow return at night." It was a snowy night in the south of the Yangtze River. On the tree in front of Zita Law, a branch blossomed last night. "The next morning, the village children who like making snow like dogs came to report the scenery in the village. Not all the poets' poems are written in Jiangnan, and not all the poets who wrote these poems are from Jiangnan. But it is straightforward to forge these poems to describe the snow scene in Jiangnan, which is much better than my prose written with this stupid pen.

In a few years, there may be a winter without rain or snow in Jiangnan, and it will be a little colder in Chun Xue at the end of the lunar calendar or the beginning of February in spring. Last year's (1934) winter was like this, but I'm afraid this winter will be different. According to the solar terms, the cold days will end in February of 1936, and it will last for seven or eight days at most. Winter like this is called dry winter in rural areas, which may be better for wheat harvest, but the population will be damaged; After a long drought, diphtheria, influenza and other diseases are naturally easy to get up, but those who want to enjoy the winter scenery in Jiangnan will only be happier this winter, because there are more sunny days, and there are naturally more opportunities to stroll in the suburbs. The Japanese call it hiking, and the Germans call it Spaziergang madman. This is the most popular winter.

The weather outside the window is as clear as late autumn: sunny Gao Shuang, full of sunshine, tempts you to sit quietly in your room. Empty talk is not as good as practice.
