The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the full moon festival, full moon birthday, full moon festival, autumn moon festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, full moon festival and reunion festival, originated in ancient times, was popular in the Han Dynasty, took shape in the early Tang Dynasty, prevailed after the Song Dynasty, and was called the four traditional festivals in China together with the Spring Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day and Dragon Boat Festival.
The Mid-Autumn Festival originated from the worship of celestial phenomena and evolved from the worship of the autumn moon in ancient times. The word "Mid-Autumn Festival" first appeared in Zhou Li, a document of the Han Dynasty. In the pre-Qin period, there were activities such as "welcoming the cold on Mid-Autumn Night", "Giving good clothes on Mid-Autumn Festival" and "Celebrating the Moon at the Autumn Equinox (Yue Bai)".
