When will sorghum mature?

Sorghum ripens in summer between autumn and summer (mid-August in the solar calendar). "Three-day sickle ringing in beginning of autumn" refers to the mature harvest period of millet, and the mature period of sorghum is about one week later than that of millet. Generally speaking, the phenology is gradually delayed from south to north (about one day every 50 kilometers). Different regions have different phenological periods, and the sowing date of sorghum in different regions is quite different, and the mature harvest period of sorghum is also different.

Sorghum likes warm and light, and has higher temperature requirements than corn in its growing period, so it has certain high temperature resistance. The suitable temperature for the whole growth period is 20-30℃. In addition, sorghum is a C4 crop, which needs sufficient light during the whole growth period. The root system is developed, the osmotic pressure of root cells is high, and the ability to absorb water from soil is strong.

Sorghum is widely planted in northeast China. Because of its tall stalks, it can be used by Tibetans, and sorghum land is also commonly known as "green gauze account". Other main sorghum producing areas are the United States, Africa and South Asia, which can be used as feed.

Sorghum grows in a wide range of temperature and height, and can even be planted in toxic soil. It is also quite drought-tolerant.
