Climate change solutions
1, reducing the burning of fossil fuels
At present, the greenhouse gases produced by burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) account for more than three quarters of the total global greenhouse gas emissions, which is the main reason for the temperature rise. Therefore, representatives of COP28 will discuss the formulation of a global agreement to phase out polluting fossil fuels. Fortunately, there are many alternative clean and renewable energy sources in the world, such as wind and solar energy.
It is estimated that by 2030, wind energy and solar energy will account for more than one-third of the global electricity, and by 2050, solar energy is expected to become the world's leading energy source. However, when the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing, other technologies are still needed to fill the energy gap, including battery energy storage, nuclear energy and "green" hydrogen energy.
2. Promote electric transportation.
Road traffic contributes 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, mainly through the combustion of gasoline and diesel. Electric vehicles have great potential to reduce these emissions. Compared with gasoline vehicles, electric vehicles can reduce emissions by an average of two-thirds in the whole service life, especially in Europe and America.
3. Reduce methane emissions
Although the content of methane in the atmosphere is very small, its greenhouse effect is 80 times that of carbon dioxide in 20 years. Because the life span of methane in the atmosphere is only about 10 years, compared with carbon dioxide for centuries, reducing methane emissions may be one of the most effective ways to slow down climate warming in the short term.
4. Capture and use carbon dioxide
If we want to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, we must take measures to capture carbon dioxide from the source or directly absorb it through natural or artificial processes. Although land and sea absorb more than half of carbon dioxide emissions, human activities are destroying nature's ability to absorb carbon, such as continuous deforestation and ocean warming.
5. Digital health and renewable energy
Promoting digital health is one of the important means to deal with climate change. By promoting the use of clean and renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar energy, we can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, adopting advanced digital technologies, such as electric vehicles, smart grids and energy storage technologies, will help to improve energy efficiency and promote the transition to a sustainable energy system.
