Xianglian is a specialty of Hunan Province and a symbolic product of China's national geography.

Lotus seeds are produced in Hunan, Hubei, Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and other places. Among them, Xianglian in Xiangtan, Hunan, Jianlian in Jianning, Fujian, and Xuanlian in Xuanping, Zhejiang are also called the three major lotus seeds in China. Xiangtan is located in the east of central Hunan Province, downstream of Xiangjiang River, with humid climate and distinct seasons. The annual average temperature is about 17℃, with abundant sunshine and rainfall, which forms favorable climatic conditions for production in Xiang Lian.
