What are the disadvantages of traditional media compared with the Internet?
First of all, the characteristics of weak interaction and timeliness of paper media make its development "congenital deficiency".
Since its birth, newspapers, as a one-way media, have been placed in the position of "high above" preachers.
Due to the limitations of the media, its responsibility is only a simple communication function, and it is impossible to know the acceptance and feedback of the audience. "You listen to what I say" has become the communication mode of newspapers.
However, in the era of overwhelming information and people's freedom of speech, the indoctrination communication of "I will listen to whatever you say" has obviously lost people's favor.
The mass information, mass communication and mass interaction of new media have undoubtedly become the mainstream mode of communication in modern society.
In addition, the most important thing in news is timeliness, and news war is to race against time. Whoever seizes the opportunity of reporting will become the winner in the news war.
Due to the limitations of the media, the news that happened that day often can't be released until the next day, but the new media has no such limitations. News that happens at this moment can be edited and then uploaded to the Internet.
Secondly, the production cost is too high and the communication carrier is limited, which leads to the "acquired deformity" of paper media.
As we all know, the publication of a newspaper needs to go through layers of links: reporter writing, relevant leaders reviewing manuscripts, edition editing, proofreading, leadership signing, printing and distribution ... The manpower and material resources spent in each link constitute the production cost of the newspaper.
As for the new media with the Internet as the media, the first thing to save is the distribution cost. However, the main information source of many websites is still traditional media, and its editing cost is greatly reduced compared with paper media.
As a traditional paper media, its three major supports are editing, management and distribution, while new media directly saves distribution costs. From the perspective of industry development, this is the fundamental difference between the two.
On the other hand, the communication medium of paper media is paper, and the purpose of communication is achieved by printing news content on paper.
Judging from the layout of the newspaper, its information capacity is limited and the portability of the newspaper is poor. Compared with the portability of new media and the convenience of surfing the Internet anytime and anywhere, it is obviously in a weak position in the use habits.
Thirdly, the increasingly serious homogenization of paper media also doomed its decline.
Homogenization, in layman's terms, means that the product models produced are consistent. From an economic point of view, newspaper homogenization is an inevitable product of market competition, which is mainly manifested in newspaper positioning and news content.
At present, most newspapers in China are positioned as comprehensive newspapers, which are distributed to the mass market and have a wide audience. As a direct result of this, in a region, the news content of various newspapers has a high repetition rate.
Mr. Dong once made an empirical analysis of Chengdu newspaper market. In the Beijing market, he compared the number of identical pages and featured pages of Beijing Youth Daily, Beijing Morning Post, Jinghua Times, Beijing Daily Courier and Beijing News in a week, and found that the proportion of identical content in the total number of pages ranged from 50.4% to 83.6%.
Due to the positioning of newspapers and the limitations of reporters' interviews, the high repetition rate of newspapers in the same area makes the existence of many newspapers meaningless, because people only need one newspaper to know the important news in this area, and the homogenization competition makes many newspapers become chicken ribs.
Finally, it is very important that advertising revenue, as the pillar of media financial revenue, is "not yet self-financing"
Traditional media, represented by newspaper industry, can't escape the fate of decline.
In fact, the rules of the market economy are very clear: traditional media and new media are both a business. The quality of business is determined by the account book. The above figures will not deceive people, whether they are scolding or boasting. After calculation, the temperature is particularly self-aware.
According to the data provided by Ctr Media Intelligence, in traditional media advertisements, TV increased by 6.5%, newspapers decreased by 7.5%, periodicals increased by 7.5%, broadcasting increased by 9.6% and outdoor increased by 2.0%.
It can be seen that newspapers have become the media with negative advertising growth in traditional media. Compared with the decline of traditional media, the development of Internet advertising is another scene. According to the core data of Internet advertising in China released by iResearch, the online advertising market in China reached 75.365438 billion, up 46.8% year-on-year.
Driven by the pressure of survival, readers of many local newspapers even found that once-banned medical advertisements began to return to the layout. However, with the population update iteration in China and the rapid penetration of the Internet, even with these methods, the prospect of traditional media is still bleak.
