What are the characteristics of barbarian carving art?

Barbarians are nomadic people, and their artists are good at making all kinds of handicrafts. The handicrafts they created are based on deformed animal images, and all kinds of complex and exquisite decorative patterns are carved, but these carvings are flat and have no three-dimensional sense. Barbarian sculptors also applied their exquisite carving on handicrafts to architectural decoration carving. In the 7th century, Lombardy, a branch of barbarians, founded this country in northern Italy. After accepting the Christian faith, they built some churches and made many decorative carvings on the church buildings. These sculptures are also flat, mostly showing decorative patterns of animals and flowers, but there are also some relief works with Christian themes of characters.
