Huangpu Ancient Port, Huangpu District, Guangzhou

The famous Huangpu Port, where did the name Huangpu come from? I'm afraid young people don't know that place used to be a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in history. It is Huangpu Village, Xinjiao Town, Haizhu District.

Huangpu Village, formerly known as Huangpu Village, is said to have a phoenix flying to the seaside for food and bathing, which was later called (the mud beach by the river is called Pu). Feng Pu, including Huangpu Village and part of Shiji Village, formed villages as early as the Song Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, the town of Yanggangwei in Guangzhou gradually silted up and was not suitable for berthing. The Pazhou Tower built on the other side of Pazhou (now Pazhou) can be used for navigation, so Feng Pu, located in the southeast of Pazhou, has become an ideal berth for foreign merchant ships. At that time, there was a stone tablet at the north and south gates of the village, one called Feng Pu and the other called Huangzhou. There are many foreign merchant ships, and sailors come and go frequently, so it was mistakenly called Huangpu, and later it was written as "Huangpu" because of homonym (there is a saying that many people in Yunchuang Village are surnamed Huang, so it is called Huangpu, but according to the author's investigation in Huangpu Village, the surname of Huang in this village is not the most popular, and the old man recalls that there were not many people surnamed Huang before). In the Qing dynasty, the official also called it Huangpu. After the maritime ban was lifted during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, Guangdong Customs set up a "Huangpu Registration Office" here to designate foreign merchant ships to berth, load and unload goods and pay taxes. There is a direct barge between this place and 13 line, so the waterfront street near the "registration desk" is very busy. The residents here are also close to overseas and have become the hometown of overseas Chinese. Stone tablets engraved with English still exist today, indicating that many foreigners lived here in those days; There is also an inscription in the Qing Dynasty, which advises residents to beware of traffickers selling people overseas, and it is also one of the witnesses of residents going abroad that year. Overseas Chinese care about mulberry trees and have built many ancestral temples in their hometown. During the Tongzhi period, the customs moved to Changzhou, but it still used the name "Huangpu" and called it "Huangpu New Port". After more than one hundred years, "Xingang" has become a well-known Huangpu Port, and Huangpu Village has not attracted much attention.

During the Republic of China, there were more than 30 ancestral halls in this village, which became the place where the wounded soldiers lived. After liberation, although it used to be the seat of Guangdong Invalides Sanatorium, its prosperity in those days was little known. A few years ago, it once again attracted the attention of the world, and it was also "ancient". A few years ago, the editor of Overseas Chinese Annals compiled by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office in Singapore searched for the origin of the famous "Mr. Huangpu" Hu Xuanze (Yaki) and went to Huangpu Village after many twists and turns. They found many stone tablets that proved frequent exchanges between China and foreign countries. They know that this is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in history, and they know that 70% of the families in the village have moved abroad or to Hong Kong and Macao. As a result, they helped Huangpu Village to sort out the village history and overseas Chinese history, which attracted the attention of overseas Chinese in the village and compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao, and established the Huangpu Village Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao Compatriots Association.

Mr. Liang, president of the Friendship Association, who is doing business in Hong Kong, said: "celebrities such as Hu Xuanze, Feng Rui and others in Huangpu Village have done a lot for Sangzi, and our descendants should also contribute to the construction of their hometown." In recent years, members of the fraternity have actively donated money to run public welfare undertakings, done a good job in street lamps in the village and built a phoenix pavilion at the entrance of the village; Also invested in toy factories, wig factories and electroplating factories in the village; 1990, he donated money to build a primary school.

Many relatives who have traveled abroad have returned to their hometown to build houses. The author visited Huangpu village a few days ago and saw the unique scenery of a village with a combination of Chinese and western architecture. There are more than ten old ancestral temples in the village. The traditional "pot-ear house" in China and foreign houses with European, Japanese and Southeast Asian characteristics are juxtaposed among green trees and bamboos, which is very interesting. In front of the "Lin Hu Villa" of Hu Guangchun, honorary president of the Association of Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao Compatriots in the village, you can see the words "Building a house for future generations living abroad" engraved on the cornerstone of the wall, and the homesickness overflows on the stone. It turns out that the Brotherhood organizes family reunions at home and abroad on major festivals every year. On the third day of the third lunar month, nearly 1,000 people sometimes go back to their hometown to carry out traditional activities, such as ancestor worship in Tomb-Sweeping Day, dragon boat rowing on the Dragon Boat Festival and celebrating the October reunion. It is said that the Friendship Association also plans to build a modern restaurant next to the Feng Pu Pavilion at the entrance of the village, so that villagers and guests can talk freely. Exactly: "the port has changed for a hundred years, and the naked child looks up at the bright moon." The house that combines Chinese and Western styles is very beautiful, and Lv Yun is full of homesickness. "
