Working principle of rain gauge

There are two ways of metering device (i.e. two working principles). Self-metering type, 10mm siphon container with recording pen and clock, rotating self-metering paper, recording rainfall period and rainfall, changing paper every 24 hours; At present, the advanced tipper is used to record the measurement of each time period and rainfall period by pulse current induction, and the short message sending device (equivalent to mobile phone) is installed wirelessly with solar energy as the power, so as to realize the full automation of wired connection with computers.

The rain gauge is a special instrument for collecting precipitation. It measures the precipitation in millimeters through a supporting rainfall measuring cylinder. It is suitable for meteorological stations, hydrological stations, environmental protection, flood control and drainage, agriculture, forestry and other related departments to measure precipitation. Rain gauge is a traditional product, the water bearing port is made of cast copper, and the barrel is made of stainless steel plate by tin welding.

Extended data:

Rain gauge, the overall structure is barrel-shaped metal without corrosion, the inner wall should be smooth and round, and the edge of the water receiver should not have burrs or protrusions. Beautiful and elegant appearance, good weather resistance and longer service life. There are two kinds of rain gauges: those with funnels and those without funnels.

Generally a cylinder with a diameter of 20 cm. In order to keep the shape and area of the mouth, the cylinder must be hard. In order to prevent rainwater from splashing in, the barrel mouth is in the shape of a blade with straight inside and inclined outside.

Other equipment for measuring rainfall: rain gauge. There are many kinds of rain gauges, such as siphon rain gauge, weighing rain gauge, tipping bucket rain gauge and so on.

1, siphon rain gauge

Siphon rain gauge can continuously record liquid precipitation and precipitation hours, and precipitation intensity can also be known from precipitation records. Siphon rain gauge consists of water reservoir, float chamber, self-recording clock and shell. Rainwater enters the water reservoir from the top water inlet, is collected through the lower funnel, and leads to the float chamber.

The float chamber consists of a cylinder with a float, which rises with the increase of the injected rain, driving the self-recording pen to rise. The self-recording clock is fixed on the seat plate, and the drum is driven by the clock machine to make the recording pen draw a curve on the recording paper around the drum. The ordinate on the recording paper records the rainfall, and the abscissa is driven by the self-recording clock, indicating the time.

When the rainfall reaches a certain height (for example, 10 mm), the water level in the float chamber rises to the siphon connected with the float chamber, so that the siphon is started, and the rainwater in the float chamber is quickly discharged into the water storage bottle. At the same time, the self-recording pen drops vertically to the zero line position on the recording paper, and the inflow of rainwater begins to rise again, thus continuously recording the rainfall process.

2. Weighing rain gauge

This instrument can continuously record the weight of precipitation on the rain cup and store it in it. The recording method can record the weight of all precipitation with mechanical clockwork device or counterweight system, and can record the mixed precipitation of snow, hail and rain and snow.
