A Brief Introduction to the Authors of Buddhism and Traditional Culture in China
Fang was born in 1933, Yongkang, Zhejiang. 196 1 graduated from the philosophy department of Peking University, and later served as a teaching assistant and lecturer in the philosophy department of Renmin University of China. 1984 was promoted to full professor. He is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Religious Studies at the School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China, director of the Institute of Buddhism and Religious Studies at the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, and dean of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Religious Studies. He has served as vice-president and consultant of the Chinese Religious Society, vice-president and executive vice-president of the Chinese Society for the History of Philosophy, editor-in-chief of China Philosophy History magazine, member of the Philosophy Department of the Social Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, and librarian of central research institute of culture and history. He has been engaged in the teaching and research of China's philosophy, Buddhism and culture for a long time. The main monographs are: Buddhist Essays in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Buddhist Philosophy, History of the Development of Ancient Philosophical Problems in China (Volume I) and Essentials of Buddhist Philosophy in China (Volume II). He has won the Sixth National Book Award, the first prize of outstanding achievements in humanities and social sciences of the State Education Commission, and the eighth special prize of outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences of Beijing.
