What are the main traditions that have developed out of sociology

The positivist tradition, the humanist tradition.

The positivist tradition believes that reality is real and can be known and understood. In terms of methodology, positivism emphasizes the application of research methods from the natural sciences to sociological research in order to establish a standard, unified body of knowledge. Its representatives include Turgon and Comte.

The humanist tradition focuses on human emotions, beliefs, values and other subjective experiences and factors. Humanism believes that sociology should study human subjective experience and cultural phenomena, not just social structure and social behavior. It is represented by Weber and Schutz.
