What are the characteristics of "Nisai-odori" in Japanese Okinawan classical dance?
The Nisai-odori dance of Japanese Okinawan classical dance is a dance separate from the group dances. Most of the Okinawan classical dances refer to the dances performed at the ceremonies celebrating the coronation of the Ryukyu kings, but there are some dances that are separated from those dances, and the costumes of the performers and the themes of the dances are completely different from the dances performed at the coronation ceremonies. It is more akin to the native art, or to the samurai dance. The Nisai-odori dance, which includes the upper and lower parts of the dance, is a completely different style of dance from that which was performed on the occasion of the arrival of the Gokan ship in Okinawa, and it is a performing art that is intended to be enjoyed by the people.
