Pu'er Tea

Synonyms Pu Yu Tea (Physical Knowledge), Big Leaf Tea (Arboriculture).

The source is the leaves of Pu'er Tea (普洱茶), a plant of the family Camelliaceae.

Phytomorphology Pu'er tea

Evergreen shrub or small tree, about 3 meters high. Branchlets gray, pilose when young. Leaves alternate, elliptic, ovoid-elliptic or momentarily elliptic, 7-16 cm long, 2.8-5.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, serrulate, glabrous above, glabrous below or pubescent when young; petiole 4-10 mm long. Flowers solitary in leaf axils; sepals 5, glabrous; petals 7-9, obovate-square, white, ca. 2 cm; stamens numerous; ovary superior, orbicular, densely pilose, 3-5-locular, style 3-lobed, glabrous. Capsule oblate, black-brown, 3-4 cm in diam. Seeds suborbicular, brown, ca. 15 mm in diameter.

Distribution Yunnan.

Taste bitter, astringent, cold.
