How to respect humanistic traditions and protect wetlands and grasslands?

In 2003, "green camp" went to Zoige Wetland Nature Reserve in Sichuan to carry out the activities of "respecting humanistic traditions and protecting wetlands and grasslands". The present situation of wetland desertification, grassland degradation and water resources destruction in important areas of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and Yellow River in Zoige area of Sichuan Province was investigated. At the same time, they took the initiative to learn about Tibetan culture and discussed with local residents the combination of economic development and environmental protection and the development prospect of eco-tourism.

Sichuan Zoige Wetland Nature Reserve is located in ruoergai county, Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The nature reserve was established with the approval of ruoergai county municipal government in 1994, and was promoted to provincial nature reserve in 1997. The main protection objects are alpine swamp wetland ecosystem and rare animals such as black-necked cranes. Located in the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the center of the Zoige swamp, the reserve is a typical representative of the alpine wetland ecosystem in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The area is a flat plateau with the highest elevation of 3697 meters and the lowest elevation of 3422 meters. The climate is cold and humid, the peat bog is widely developed, the swamp vegetation is well developed, the habitat is extremely complex, the ecosystem structure is complete, the biodiversity is rich, and there are many endemic species. It is one of the key areas of biodiversity in China, and it is also one of the areas with the richest species in the alpine region in the world. However, the ecosystem in this area is fragile, and it is difficult to recover once it is destroyed.

In 2004, "green camp" went to Hainan to carry out activities with the theme of "cherishing tropical resources and paying attention to marine ecology". They learned and investigated the living conditions of mangroves, coral reefs and tropical rainforests in Hainan Nature Reserve, and explored the sustainable development and protection of marine ecology in the future.

In 2005, "green camp" went to Gansu and launched an activity with the theme of "There was a Silk Road in ancient times, but now it is a tour of Hexi Corridor". In this activity, "green camp" really entered the long-forgotten northwest mainland, and took Baishuijiang Nature Reserve and Minqin County, Gansu Province as the investigation destinations.

Baishuijiang Nature Reserve was established in 1978 with an area of190,000 hectares. Its main protected objects are giant pandas, golden monkeys, antelopes and forest ecosystems, and now it belongs to the world biosphere reserve. Baishui River, located in Longnan City, Gansu Province, is the largest tributary in the upper reaches of Jialing River. Gongganling, which originated at the southern end of Minshan Mountain at the junction of Gansu and Sichuan, flows from northwest to southeast through Jiuzhaigou County, Sichuan Province and Wenxian County, Gansu Province, and flows into Bikou Reservoir in Bailong River at Guankouba, Lei Yu Township, Wenxian County.

2006 is the 10th anniversary of the founding of green camp. That year, they launched an activity with the theme of "returning to Baima Snow Mountain and visiting the ten-year changes of nature reserves". They went to Baima Snow Mountain where the first green camp was located, retraced the path taken by the first green camp, visited the ten-year changes of Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve, and pursued the place where the dream began.

Baima Snow Mountain Reserve is located in Deqin County, Yunnan Province, with an area of 190 144 hectares. The nature reserve was established with the approval of Yunnan Provincial People's Government in 1983, and was promoted to a national nature reserve in 1988.

Baima Snow Mountain "Baima Snow Mountain" is named after the towering Yunling Hengduan Mountains. The peaks are continuous and snowy, overlooking the main peak of snow all year round, just like a Mercedes-Benz white horse. There are more than ten species of national key protected plants such as Stellaria crassipes and Taxodium distichum, and more than 30 species of national key protected animals such as Yunnan golden monkey, clouded leopard and red panda. Therefore, this nature reserve is called "the kingdom of alpine flora and fauna in cold temperate zone" and has high scientific value.

In 2007 and 2008, "green camp" held nature commentator training camps in Changbai Mountain National Nature Reserve in Jilin Province and Nanling National Nature Reserve in Guangdong Province respectively. The training camp carries out nature education for teenagers through natural observation and natural experience, which has produced good results.

After returning to their respective schools and cities, campers who participated in the "Nature Tutor Training Camp" set up fixed-point observation groups in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Xiamen, Guangzhou and Chongqing to carry out long-term nature observation and experience activities. Each group selected outstanding members to participate in the nature commentator training camp held in summer, followed teachers with rich experience in nature explanation to learn the knowledge and skills of nature explanation, and exchanged experiences with representatives from all over the country.

Fixed-point observation refers to choosing a wilderness (big or small, in a park or at home, in a city or in a suburb), and then observing the changes and interactions between local creatures and the environment for a long time.
