Hospitals: including general hospitals, hospitals of traditional Chinese medicine, hospitals combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine, ethnic hospitals, various types of specialized hospitals and nursing homes (centers), excluding specialized disease control hospitals, maternity and child health care hospitals, and sanatoriums. Hospitals are divided into public and private hospitals according to the type of registration:

Public hospitals: refers to the economic type of state-owned and collective hospitals.

Private hospitals: hospitals whose economic type is other than state-owned and collective, including joint venture, joint-stock cooperative, private, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao investment and foreign investment hospitals.

Hospitals can be categorized into first, second, third, and undefined grades, and the grades are divided into A, B, C, and undefined.

At the end of 2021, the total number of medical and health institutions in the country was 1030,935, an increase of 8,013 over the previous year.
