Common insect bait and hook puncture methods

Traditional fishing is one of the most commonly used fishing methods for Chinese people. Fishing tackle is simple and diverse, which is deeply loved by fishermen. Moreover, the bait of traditional fishing is convenient and diverse. Let's take a look at the insect bait commonly used in traditional fishing. Insect bait generally uses live bait, which tastes fishy. It mainly catches fish that like to eat meat bait, as well as grass, carp, crucian carp and bream. There are many kinds of insect bait that can be used in traditional fishing, such as red worms, earthworm bait, maggots and so on. I won't introduce it here, just select a few commonly used ones, and then give you a brief introduction of the fish species we use these insect lures as bait and the method of hooking.

1. Red worm

Red worm, with a lot of juice in its body and a very fishy smell, is mainly used to catch crucian carp, but it can also be used to catch spines, bream and carp. Red worms can be divided into male worms and female worms. The male worms are big and the female worms are small. When fishing crucian carp with traditional fishing method, we should choose a thin hook to quickly pierce the head of the red worm, so as not to see the juice flowing out of the red worm. Red worms wear three or five hooks at a time, and they can wear more when fishing carp. Because the body fluid will be lost after the red worm wears the hook, it is necessary to change the bait frequently and try to use fresh worms. Red worms can also use cotton thread binding or other methods instead of wearing hooks, which will be cleaner and more durable, but the taste is not so heavy. Among all the baits, the red worm bait attracts the most small miscellaneous fish, so the red worm bait is only used in late autumn, early spring and the whole winter, and the effect is not particularly good in other seasons.

2. earthworm bait

Earthworms, the most commonly used bait in traditional fishing, have fishy smell and can be used all year round. They can be used to catch all kinds of fish, but they are not professional. Earthworms come into contact with many ingredients, mainly crucian carp and thorn. When using earthworms, the hook should be inserted from the bottom half of the head, and then pass through the body, with the hook tip slightly exposed, leaving a hook of one or two centimeters, preferably fresh. Earthworms are divided into green earthworms and red earthworms, which are generally raised artificially. The scientific name Eisenia foetida, also known as Taiping No.2 earthworm, mainly catches crucian carp. Green earthworms are mainly used to catch catfish and spines, and carp, bream, herring and snakehead are also caught from time to time. When we fish, it's best to cut it into small pieces. The hook can be an 8-ball hook, which is just the right size.

maggot

Maggots, fishermen who like traditional fishing methods use this bait, usually raise it by themselves, because you are not sure whether the bait you buy is clean or not. The cultivation method is simple. As long as a cup of spoiled milk or a piece of pork is left outside for a week, a large number of maggots can be produced. Self-raised maggots are more hygienic. Pick out the big maggots, wash them and put them in a small bottle for sealing. Put some bran and a little salt in the bottle and keep it fresh in the refrigerator, which can ensure that it will remain fresh after more than a month. The maggot hook is about to go through the small hole in the tail. Just one or two. The maggot skin is very thick. If worn correctly, it can remain full underwater for a long time. When fishing in autumn, small miscellaneous fish make serious nests, and the effect of fishing crucian carp and carp with maggots will be better than that of earthworm bait and red worm bait.

4. Silkworm pupae

Silkworm pupa, which is used as bait, is usually used to catch carp. Because silkworm chrysalis, in late summer and early autumn, is a must-kill bait for carp fishing. Whether eaten raw or steamed, it can also be cut into pieces and mixed with rice wine, bran and vegetable cakes. As bait to build nests and lure fish. If the whole bait is worn, it will be more attractive to carp.

5.leeches

Leech, when fishing in the river, the effect is very good. For example, catfish and yellow catfish can be used by everyone. The author has tried it and the effect is good. Other species have not tried it, and the effect is not very clear.

6.snails

Snails mainly prey on Pelteobagrus fulvidraco and herring. It is said that other fish can be caught occasionally, but not many. When we go fishing in summer, we can see that Pelteobagrus fulvidraco will spit out some snail covers in a few days, or dissect wild fish such as Angkor, herring and carp to see if there are any empty snail shells in their intestines. This shows that snails are the food of many wild fish. When we catch Pelteobagrus fulvidraco with snails, we should break the snail's shell and hang the hook on the hard meat. When fishing herring, it is best to ensure that the snail is complete and the hook is placed on the shell.

7. caterpillar

It is mainly used to catch catfish, especially caterpillars of large catfish, and has little resistance to caterpillars. The average caterpillar is as thick as the little finger and has a thick skin and a lot of juice. It is best to tie the hook with cotton thread. Take a cotton thread and tie the bug tightly to the hook. Catfish fishing with traditional fishing methods requires constant fishing. Using this hook-loading method can greatly ensure the integrity of the insect body, and it is resistant to gnawing, foaming and flowing, and it is not necessary to change the bait for a long time.

8. Others

In addition to the above-mentioned kinds of insect bait, there are many kinds of insect bait used in traditional fishing. Such as crickets, China sword horns, grasshoppers, etc. , often used for grass carp fishing, both bottom fishing and floating fishing. When we wear the fishhook, we should break off the big feet of the insect body and insert the fishhook from the bottom of the head and the middle of the abdomen to ensure the integrity of the insect body. Cricket, because it looks a little scary, is probably not used by many people. In fact, it has a good effect on fishing Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. I often use it when fishing at night in summer, but now there are too many pesticides and fertilizers, so it is not so easy to find them.
