China Chuan Island Island Traditional Dragon Boat Race

From 010 to 1010, such a bustling Dragon Boat Race will be held outside the Big Beach on Shimo Chuan Island, Taishan Chuan Island Township. Unlike common dragon boat races, island dragon boat races usually involve paddling large or small boats. Basically, each dragon boat will have a crew of about 30 people, plus gong and drum players and coxswains.

In Natsukawa, there will be a one-of-a-kind dragon boat that will turn around and race for 2 consecutive days with a 500-meter one-way trip and 16 rows back and forth. Races like this one are really more than endurance, more than skill, more than flexibility, more than heart.

Every year after the eighth day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar, villages in the Pearl River Delta region begin to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival one after another. First, most of them will have a dragon starting ceremony. Praying for the dragon, kicking the dragon, and washing the dragon boat are "awakened" from the water, successfully kicking off the Dragon Boat Festival, which means that the annual Dragon Boat Festival folk celebrations have begun.

Dragon boats are usually blessed before being launched. Respected villagers in the village are in charge of this event. The steak ding also pay their respects, praying for good weather and good luck!

After the blessing ceremony, the men and women of the village go down to the river and work with Qixin to lift the dragon boats out of the mud, scrub them clean, and prepare to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. Because the dragon boat is always hidden underwater, it must be lifted ashore for repairs when it is dug out. The hard wood of the dragon boat, coupled with the fact that it has been hidden underwater for a year, is covered with mud and moss, making the entire dragon boat weigh two to three tons, requiring dozens of young and strong people to lift it ashore.
