What are the living customs of Australian aborigines?
Most indigenous marriages are arranged by families, and some children are called marriages before they are born. Girls usually get married at the age of thirteen or fourteen. In some tribes, husbands are much older than wives, and many modern aborigines no longer follow traditional rules and customs in marriage.
It is strange that Australian aborigines send smoke signals to far away places. Newly cut wood will ignite black smoke, while dry wood will ignite lighter smoke. Later, the indigenous people blew into the smoke or fanned the wind by the campfire with bark, so that the rising smoke would change into different shapes, such as cylindrical smoke, spiral smoke or sudden smoke. Cigarettes of different colors and shapes represent different meanings. They use this smoke signal to inform people of local news events, warn guests of the arrival or invasion of foreign enemies, or ask someone to help transport hunted animals home.
Australian aborigines also use a wooden stick about 20 ~ 60 cm long to transmit information. Some sticks are very simple, while others are decorated with carvings, paintings or feathers. The form of this stick is a bit like a hint. For example, three dents on a stick represent invitations from three elders, and the same stick can be used many times, representing different meanings.
