Why do pc lenses need dry grinding?

Pc lenses need dry grinding, because grinding is faster, only suitable for rough grinding, and fine grinding needs wet grinding.

Dry grinding should be carried out in the rough grinding stage, avoiding the use of cooling liquid (water), but wet grinding can be carried out in the fine grinding or polishing stage, because the heat generated is the least, and the knife dry cutting method is more suitable for the edge grinding of PC lenses.

But most edgers on the market have wheels. This kind of rough grinding wheel edger designed for PC lens can completely meet the requirements, but the grinding speed in wet grinding stage must not be too fast. The edging room should be kept clean. If debris is found on the diamond grinding wheel, it can be removed with glass or bamboo chopsticks.

After edging, it is suggested to reverse the slight bevel angle of 45 degrees about 0.05mm on both sides of the lens. This can not only remove sharp edges, but also reduce the internal stress caused by grinding.

If dry chamfering is used, chamfering waste can be easily removed, scraped off with a plastic shovel with straight edges or even nails, or gently ground off on a polishing wheel. But you can't scrape it off with a blade to avoid scratching the lens. Ordinary refiners on the market can be used for chamfering.

It is suggested to use an independent automatic grooving machine to groove PC lenses. The slotting machine is easy to use and the slotting position is flexible. All domestic automatic grooving machines can be competent, just need a high-quality grooving grinding wheel.

The grinding wheel used for slotting PC lens is rougher than usual. It has also been suggested to use grooved grinding wheels. PC lenses, like edging, cannot be slotted with water. Before slotting, it shall be processed by frameless processing. When slotting, it is not necessary to add water first and then add water to open a circle, so as to reduce the white residue left by the lens when slotting.
