What are the characteristics of service-oriented manufacturing?

Service-oriented manufacturing refers to a manufacturing mode in which enterprises provide productive services and service production through the integration of products and services, the full participation of customers, so as to realize the value appreciation of all stakeholders in the manufacturing value chain, thus achieving a high degree of coordination of core competitiveness and achieving efficient innovation. Service-oriented manufacturing is service and service-oriented manufacturing based on manufacturing industry. It is the integration of product economy based on production and service economy based on consumption. It is a new industrial form and a new manufacturing model.

The main mode of service-oriented manufacturing industry is business process outsourcing. Outsourcing can be production, marketing, design, development, information, maintenance and other business links. Service outsourcing is a concentrated expression of high efficiency and economy, and service-oriented manufacturing is conducive to the coordinated development of large, medium and small enterprises. Traditionally, manufacturing is production and processing. In fact, production is not equal to manufacturing. Manufacturing includes production and service, that is, manufacturing = production+service. From the smile curve, service is at the high end of value, but the production and processing links are at the low end. The value created by production accounts for about 1/3 of the total value, and the value created by service accounts for about 2/3. From the process analysis, the time of production process is110, while the time of service process is 9/ 10.

Characteristics of service-oriented manufacturing:

First, in terms of value realization, service-oriented manufacturing emphasizes the transformation from traditional product manufacturing as the core, to providing products with rich service connotations and products-based services, until providing customers with overall solutions.

Secondly, in the operation mode, the traditional manufacturing mode has changed from product-centered to people-centered, emphasizing the integration of knowledge between customers and operators, and realizing personalized production and service by effectively tapping the demand in the service manufacturing chain.

Thirdly, in terms of organizational model, although the coverage of service-oriented manufacturing exceeds traditional manufacturing and services, it does not pursue vertical integration. It pays more attention to different types of subjects (customers, service enterprises and manufacturing enterprises) actively participate in the cooperative activities of service-oriented manufacturing network through mutual value perception, and spontaneously form the optimal allocation of resources in mutual dynamic cooperation, thus emerging a service-oriented manufacturing system with dynamic and stable structure.

Fourthly, in the operation mode, service-oriented manufacturing emphasizes active service, actively introduces customers into the process of product manufacturing and application services, actively discovers customer needs and launches targeted services. Based on business process collaboration, enterprises actively provide productive services and service production for upstream and downstream customers, and jointly create value.
