Characteristics of Xu Suling

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Xu Suling went to Chongqing to work at the Central Cinematography Bureau, and in 1939, he directed the feature film "The Lonely City of Blood", which was based on the August 13th War. Afterwards, he directed the long documentary "Tibet Tour" and participated in the editing of documentaries such as "East Battlefield" and "Xinjiang Style". After the victory of the war, he took part in the reception of the Japanese and pseudo-film organizations in Shanghai, and later became the director of the second factory of the "China Light and Power". He wrote the movie script "The End of the World", and directed the movies "All the Man's Men" and "Female Tycoon".

After the liberation of Shanghai, he directed the feature film "Symphony of Life" for Cathay Pictures, etc. In 1952, he joined Shanghai Film Studio as a director, and directed the opera films "Cosmic Frontier", "Qin Xianglian", "Mugui-ying Hangs Up the Marshalship", "Hundred-Year-Old Hangs Up the Marshalship", "The Female Judgement" (in cooperation with Qian Qiqi, etc.), and "Three Mothers"; and directed the feature films "People Going to a Higher Ground", "Ah Fu", "Treasure Hunting", "The First Liege", and "The First Millionaire". He also directed feature films such as Man Goes Higher, Afu's Treasure Hunt, The First Express Train, Flying Dagger Hua, and Laughter in Moon Bay. Among them, Qin Xianglian was awarded the Third Prize of Excellent Films from 1949 to 1955 by the Ministry of Culture in 1957, and The Laughter of Moon Bay was awarded the Excellent Film Prize in 1981 by the Ministry of Culture. Its works, the use of lens skillfully and smoothly, especially in the cinematography of opera films, has achieved some promising results.
